Group Love
Two Door Cinema Club
Young the Giant
Foster the People
Cage the Elephant
Death Cab for Cutie
Mumford & Sons
A while ago Shawna and I decided that instead of eating out and shopping all the time, we would rather spend our fun money on experiences. I did some research and found that Seattle is a great place to catch a good concert, indeed! First one up was the "Deck the Hall Ball" at the Key Arena in Seattle. This place was HUGE!! Completely sold out show, seated about 16,000 people. This place sure knew how to get people in and out though, otherwise it would have been a mess.
First thing when we got there, we simply had to check out the t-shirt stand. Past experiences tell me that the good ones are always sold out at the end of the show. I ended up getting a few.
A new band for everyone to check out. They are called Group Love. Fell in love with this shirt, had to have it, luckily liked the band as well!
Then of course, I had to get a Mumford Shirt. Wasn't really in tune with what the horses were all about... until the very last 5 minutes of the show when the whole back of the stage lit up and showed this exact print.
The back of the shirt, just to prove it was them and I was there.
Unfortunately, those are the only pictures I have!! I can't believe I couldn't get it together for this. In my defense, we had both worked the night before and only had about 3 hours of sleep before leaving. I'm surprised we made it through the 7.5 hour long show!!
So, quick run-down. Group Love: awesome. One totally hip Seattlite chick fluttering aboot on the stage whilst her 2 dude band-mates rocked out. Check em.
Two Door Cinema Club: Could totally get down with them too. Again, very indie, very Seattle. I need to get their CD and see what the recorded stuff sounds like, but they were definitely talented live.
Young the Giant: Again, good. Very off the radar which I love. I dig.
Foster the People: kinda bugged. Wait, I take that back... I'm surprised I didn't walk out on them. I'm sure the girl next to me was getting super annoyed at me making fun of them the whole show. It all started a few months ago when we were all sitting around the dinner table at Riane and Jake's house and she clued me in to the words in one of their popular songs. So of course I immediately started disliking them. I understand freedom of speech and agree that you can say whatever your little heart desires. I am just furious with the radio stations and ignorant tweens for supporting this crap. Plus, all of them were complete Tools that didn't have real live talent to boot. Ugh... done with my rant. Final thought?... didn't like em.
Cage the Elephant: Dislike. This one hurt my heart a little. I really thought I was going to love these guys just from what I had heard on the radio. I understand, I didn't do my homework - which if I had I would've known that these guys were losers. So they come out and the guitar player has a pink clown fro' as his REAL hair. The lead singer had obviously hit his meth pipe the moment before he walked on stage. He is all types of wigged out, I'm telling ya. Then jumps out and starts crowd surfing. Three times. He messed up his songs a few times and was just generally bad. This is the guy we are going to see a MTV special about his messed up death in a few years. You mark my words.
Death Cab for Cutie: amazing. They sounded just like their CD. I enjoyed that they slowed it down a little. My favorite part about them though? They were obviously a bunch of regular nerdy dudes who started a band. All of them were more than ordinary looking, they were older than you would expect, and literally wearing collared shirts and slacks! They weren't running all over the stage trying to act cool, they were just geeking out together - making some good tunes. I've been into these guys for about 5 years now, but this really bumped them up in my book.
Then, the finale. Mumford & Sons: Words do not express. There are not powerful enough adjectives to describe the way seeing these guys made me feel. They were positively better than their CD. Hands down BEST show I have ever seen. I knew that I was passionate about these guys for sure, but seeing them live bumped them up to top five in my book. I don't know them personally or anything, but they seem so humble, so passionate, so down-to-earth. That, and their adorable British accents don't hurt them at all. :) If anyone ever gets a chance... check them out. Don't think twice.
