Virginia is (kinda) for lovers

Virginia Beach, VA. Here are the random's from the rest of the short time I was in VA.

Stupid self-portraits. This was so much easier when I had Shawna to travel with...

We crossed the bridge!! When I was in Knoxville I had a wonderful opportunity to get to know a spectacular guy named Jason aka "Killer." In our many late night talks (working night shift, people) we discussed our many travels. He told me that one of his favorite places to visit was Washington D.C. and Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to spare enough time to make it to D.C. but we did hit the second thing he told me to check out while I was there... the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. I have become a nerd for all things engineer as of late, so the second he mentioned this I remembered a show called Extreme Engineering I had watched not long before that was all about underwater tunnels. Naturally, because I had never done it before meant I simply must do it!! It was every bit as exciting as I had hoped for. Kristi had a much different point of view...

While we were waiting patiently for Kristi to work up the nerve, I decided to take a few minutes to explore. If you look really close you can see the little island where the tunnel resurfaces and becomes a bridge for something like 6 miles. Just enough time for Kristi to catch her breath.

She was such a trooper!! I was so pround of her that she faced her fears and went along with us so we could have a great evening on the beach on the other side. It was really cool for me to be able to see the rise and fall of the road/tunnel itself... almost as if the road just disappeared underwater. Obviously, that must have been terrifying for her, but we made it!

Pretty easy to go through that when this awaits you on the other side.

I was thrilled to catch the sunset. Obviously...

Wish I could have caught about a second before this. The look on their faces...
Phillip is such a great person. I was blessed to be able to spend time and get to know him a little more. You picked a good one, Kristi.

 Just call me Riane!!

What happens when you have gotten used to spending time with your bf then suddenly you won't see ezch other for over a month? You start drawing pictures in the sand. So cliche, I know.

Me too, me too!

I swear, this is the most corny thing I have done all year. I am slightly embarrassed by it, but not enough to not share it with all of you.

Gavin thinks himself the next Kung Fu Panda. He's got the moves, for sure!

Sand, surf and sunsets... I'm addicted.

God, I love this little boy.

Had to snap all the way through the last light.

Thanks, Phillip for being the man behind the lens all the time.

Kristi and Emma were waiting politely inside for us to be done with the picture-taking and whatnot so we could hurry and EAT! We wanted to eat at this little restaurant she and I had picked out ahead of time based on location. Well, when we got there it was not quite what we expected... not quite up to par. So we had to drive back over the bridge/tunnel and almost an hour into
downtown to get some food.

We were so famished by then we needed something to occupy our time. Thank goodness for crayons and paper tablecloths to play a little hangman!

The next day was Mother's Day. Instead of being able to spend it with my mother, I was imposing on their special day with Kristi. To help ease the strain just a little, Gavin, Lily and I woke up earlier than Kristi, Phillip and Emma to make a little breakfast for the clan. Kristi was less than impressed with my over-done eggs, too-thick pancakes and strong coffee, but she put a smile on her face, smothered it all in ketchup and got on with it.

Happy Mother's Day, Kristi.

When Emma isn't fussing or covered in vomit, she is actually pretty cute.

Favorite picture of the trip. Nice capture, Phillip.

Gavin is the boy of goodbye's. I'm sure he understands that you will be leaving way before you actually do, but right as you are giving your final hugs and heading out the door, everytime he gets super lovey, gives you at least 9 hugs and pretty much starts crying because he realizes how long it will be until he sees you again. Every time. So, in an attempt to keep it light, I decided he needed to be tickled to take his mind off the impending goodbye. Didn't work, but it was so much fun for me to listen to him giggle.

Passing back through I needed to get the NC sign. Now it was back to Knoxville for one night, then off to FL in the am to spend a little time with the fam.

Told ya.

Emma will sum the trip up for us... side-eye at the camera while shirtless due to the excessive amounts of vomit that come out of this girl. Wowza!
