I know... I know. I'm a jerk. I haven't updated this poor thing in quite some time. I can give you a little rundown of what I've been doing besides showing you pictures and telling you all of my funny antics.
Well, you know that we were in the Best Western for the last 2 weeks of our assignment. That was pretty much awesome. October 8th... my last shift in Medford, but who's paying attention to that anyways? Shawna and I head north out of town on the morning of the 9th to drop her car (and most of our crap) off at Jake and Riane's. They graciously let us take up a little corner of their shop to house all our goods. We stayed long enough to shovel some good home cookin' in our mouths, nap for a few hours, then we were OUT!
I had kind of half planned the route we would take, but left most of it open for the adventure. I KNOW! Aren't you proud of me??!! So, the first day we traveled through Bend, Sisters, Brothers, and all those other funny-named towns in Central Oregon. It didn't seem we made it very far, but by the time we came across Ontario it was time to call 'er quits. Not Canada... sillies. There is an Ontario, OR too. We stopped off in some crack-nasty Motel 6 where I swear to you the couple in the next room was smoking meth. Classy. After checking and double checking for bedbugs, rats, roaches and any other creepy-crawlies... I settled into a fitfull sleep. Good thing I had Molly to keep me warm as I was NOT using the comforter provided.
The next day, bright and early (otherwise known as 10 am) we were off again. After fueling up on our last Dutch Bro's we would ever see, we headed towards Idaho. This was the boring part. Boise, Pocatello, Idaho Falls. Nothing grand. That's the only mention Idaho gets in all this. But then there was Jackson, WY! Gol dang, ya'll... it was so cute! It was like ski-bunny central. You can just picture people hanging out in cafe windows, drinking their hot chocolate and having steak and eggs (cuz this is cowboy country), and shooting the shit. I might even consider taking an assignment there it was so adorable. Maybe I would make it a short one, though. It's stinkin cold there. After refueling on the second coffee of the day (this turned out to be a very long day of driving for me), we continued on through NoWhere'sVille Wyoming. I'm talking back woods country. Sad for me, it was raining, dark, and there were animals all a-boot. But we made it. Made it to Thermopolis, WY. This is my dad's birthplace so it was kinda cool to take it all in again. I haven't been since I was a kid, so of course I didn't remember any of it. What was interesting however, was the freakin Bate's Motel that we stayed at. I kid... it was called the Paintbrush Inn. Anyone who knows Thermopolis is familiar. Well the bat-shit crazy lady who rented us our room filled us in on all the local "hot spots." Which consisted of the bar that closed at 8 pm and the Pizza Hut a few blocks down. Who-hoo! Party down!! I've got some great video of our lovely hotel room for the night, I'll see if I can figure out how to load it on here. If not, pretty sure the pictures will fill ya in just a little.
Day 3: Can you believe that a "Bath House" at the local Hot Springs is NOT a gay man hangout?? Hehe... I said I really wanted to check it out to see all Thermopolis had to offer, and Shawna simply did NOT want to go, and she wasn't even shy about saying why. :) After hitting those up (largest in the world, thank you very much), we drove around town trying to find some decent coffee. 45 minutes, three wrong sets of directions (town population about 3,000), and two horribly made esspresso's later, we headed out of town. This was the day we would be home! Made it to Buffalo, then hit I-90 to Belle Fourche to drop Shawna off to hang with her sister for a few days. I plugged on the last hour and a half to my mom's just Molly and I. Aaaaaahhhhh.... 7 pm and out of the car. I swear, my butt was actually dimpled from the woven fabric of my seats. That, or for other reasons (Dairy Queen and burgers along the way). Don't judge me.
Pictures to come as soon as I can figure out my internet at home!!
