HELLGATE!!!
In southern Oregon, the best place to cool off a little on a hot summer day is to visit the Hellgate Excursion right outside of Grants Pass on the Rogue River. It was Ah-Maze-Ing. The guy who was our tour guide was quirky and fun, the sights were pretty, and most off... experienced it with 3 of my favorite people. We were prepared to get a little wet, but Good Lord... did we get drenched by the end of the 2 hour ride!
What? He wanted to say "Hi" too!
Classic Riane and Jessica... always trying to capture memories. Then there's Shawna and Jake... a little annoyed at the time, but overall happy we brought our cameras in the end.
Half of the Oregon clan. Unfortunately the other half had to stick around northern Oregon and couldn't join in.
The "Happy Couple." This was probably right as I was complaining how hot it was. We were standing in line where there was no shade to be found. I had loaded up with 2 layers of SPF 80 already, but could still feel my face burning. :( I am not a happy camper when stuck in the heat.
This is the back end of one of the boats. They hold about 60 people on bench seats with a completely open top. They can cruise at about 45 miles per hour, I do believe, and have 3 full size V8 engines. They can drive just on 8 inches of water, and turn on a dime. These guys driving definitely know what they are doing. They team up with the other boats for the full splash effect.
Yes, this is what we looked like even before we got soaked.
Of course, self portraits are necessary.
This picture was taken to showcase the certain kind of fish... NOT the shirtless young fellow. Too bad I can't remember the name of the fish... kinda gave myself away there.
If you look close, you can see the kid behind my left shoulder. This is the one who we had to stop the ride for and all look forward so he could pee off the back of the boat. Then the driver had to talk loudly about the birds in the area. He was a little shy.
The canyon where the Rogue River narrows to the point where we can't pass. At it's deepest point, it is more than 2 miles deep. Whaaaa?! Crazyness.
After the ride with the driver. Notice how everyone else in the picture looks the same as before, whereas I have some Freaky-Deaky hair. Thanks to the Deveraux genes.
Jake just before his beer. Not in full-smile status at this point.
Shawna does whatever she can to ignore my incessant nagging about the sunscreen/melanoma issue, so she ended up with a wicked awkward sunburn.
I was just so happy to be in the shade.
Great day, thouroughly enjoyed our little trek. Even though Shawna and Riane had gone on another boat ride through Portland the weekend before, and Jake had done this before, they were good sports to take me. I was purdy nervous... came prepared wth my pocket size puke bag and all.
