New Year, New Adventure

For the new year we booked a ferry boat trip to watch the fireworks from the waterfront. Good decision, Shawna! So after a wee bit of an difficult drive into the city ~ what with the traffic and back seat driving and whatnot (oh good Lord, I kid), we barely made it to our dinner reservations. Next, drop off the car and get on our boat!

Unfortunately, I was not so focused on the picture taking, so I don't have a snapshot of the boat. I assure you, however, it was awesome. Come on, it was called the 'Good Time II,' how could it not be?

A shot of the view we had of the city for 2 hours. Sorry it's crooked, I had to unzip the clear plastic cover that kept us protected from the wind, stand on a ledge and stick my hand out of the boat to get this shot. (Then again, maybe I shouldn't do those kinds of things.)

Complimentary party hats included.

I am not an alcoholic, I'm sharing. I promise we were having a good time, I'll try to work on that whole smiling thing next time.

Meanwhile, upstairs Shawna was the life of the party. We met some mid-life ladies that were having a blast dancing to 'this new age music,' so we had to join in.

Eventually everyone must be initiated into the
Friends-of-Jessica-Who-Have-Been-Inappropriately-Licked-on-th-Face group.
Guess he just got off to an early start.

I think Paul was pretty embarrassed by the whole ordeal. Guess it's because he's popped collar cool, eh?

It was difficult to get a picture of the actual fireworks, so Shawna snapped this instead.

But you have to try! I guess the whole thing was choreographed to music blasted through speakers at the base of the Space Needle. We got a much better view. Lucky for us, we didn't have to contend with nearly 20,000 other people stuck at the bottom. Of course, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from this picture.

Happy New Year's kiss! (Not lesbian, it's on the cheek.)

This night was such a blast, I didn't want it to end! Thank you, Paul and Shawna, for making my birthday weekend such a spectacular and memorable one!

Back at Shawna's hotel, there was a giant gingerbread house sculpture. Actually, there were about 15 of them. If we weren't so tired from all the festivities, we would've looked at them a little longer.

The next morning we got ready at our hotels then met up for brunch. Little did we know that it would be difficult to find a place open on New Year's Day in downtown Seattle. So we ended up with coffee and a breakfast sandwich from Seattle's Best Coffee, followed by a stroll to the waterfront on a gorgeous, warm and sunny day.

Next on the agenda: drop Paul off at the airport then head back home to try for a quick nap before going back to work that night. Boo!! Again, all good things must come to an end.

Hope everyone else had a safe and happy holiday.
