On my short trip down to Ashland before the end of my contract, Paul and I took a little trip down to the coast. Surprisingly, Paul has lived in southern Oregon for over 3 years and has still never seen the Coastal Redwoods!! Craziness! So of course, we had to make a trip on our lazy Saturday afternoon. We were dressed for a long day of driving, with sweaters and my 'fashion' boots and all. (Pay attention, this comes into play later.)
We found it! This is Paul's first visual with the Pacific Ocean of Northern California. Where's it at? Right over there...
Ok, so we found a trail leading off the road where we had pulled over to check out the humungous trees. Thinking it didn't go very far, we both wanted to see where it ended up. Unbeknownst to us, the trail led to our own little private piece of the ocean!! But wait... it's not that easy. The only reason it was so "private" was because it was almost dusk and about a mile and a half trek over slippery rocks and raised tree roots sticking sneakily out of the ground. (Yes, to all of you who know my clumsy ways... I FOUND IT!) I think it is quite funny that Paul feels the need to trick me into going for short hikes with him. :) He has since learned, when he just tells me to bring appropriate attire, there's a lot less bitching all around.
We could hear the roar of the ocean, smell the salt of the sea... Paul lost himself in the moment and just had to be the first one there! I kid, he was such a gentleman and let me be the one to pop over the hill and lay first eyes on it. Awww...
This is what we saw. I took quite a few pictures because it was just too breathtaking. The light was just perfect. If I was a sap I would call it romantic. This is what was to the right of our view...
The middle...
And to the left. I didn't want to leave, but the sun was going down and the bad part of the trek was yet to come.
Believe it or not folks, this picture only took 3 tries to get! I know, I know... boys don't like to smile; but I haven't given up yet!
As you can tell, I was having a hard time leaving. It was so hard to see what I was getting on my little point-and-shoot camera. Good thing it's not about the pictures,
but the journey with the people you enjoy.
Paul jumped to the furthest point he could find to snap a quick picture on his phone to take with him. Then we were off!! I didn't take any pictures on the way back up. Partly because there was nothing to snap now that the sun was going down, but mostly because ain't nobody want to see that!! I was a-huffin and a-puffin, and we all know that I (like a good friend of mine) don't glisten, I sweat. I hate it, it's gross and especially embarrassing when in front of my new boyfriend. Eh, gonna learn it about me at one time or another!
We made it back and we were SO happy!! Me because I didn't die of a Pulmonary Embolism, and Paul because he didn't have to push me up the hill any more. :) Either way, it was a great time and I am so happy we got the chance to experience this!
The next day, we wanted to see what the local winery had to offer. He had been there before and I had not, but we still both enjoyed a tasty flight of wine. As is tradition, I had to get my picture in the tasting room.
As always, good sir... thank you for the hospitality and wonderful times.
