Washington really wanted to send us off with a bang. We had to cut our Portland trip short to hurry and get back to Washington before we got stuck in the biggest winter storm they have had in over a decade. We drove back on treacherous roads that took us twice as long to get back as normal because they have about 3 plows in the whole state of Washington. Added onto that, no one knows how to drive either. There was countless cars in the ditch, truckers sliding all over, and some dummy who was walking across the 3 lanes of freeway traffic in shorts. Thank goodness he realized no one was slowing down so he hustled across right in the nick of time. About caused another pile-up. So following are some snapshots of "Snowmageddon 2012" in Puyallup, WA.
Our community backyard.
This was only after half a day of snow and ice accumulation. Imagine after 3!
Funny... they can't even shovel the sidewalks for the handicapped spaces. If there was a shovel anywhere I would have gone out there and done it myself! Did I mention that our power was out? Oh yeah... that was fun. Our entire appartment ran on electricity, shoot! We tried all kinds of things to keep ourselves busy, including me sleeping to prepare for a shift that night and Shawna driving around searching for a store open (and with electricity) to purchase some sort of candles for light and heat. It was pretty funny to see just how unprepared we are forced to be when traveling. I am just not used to that kind of living so while it is a little scary, it is also exhilirating to know that we are going to make it without all the excess that people (including ourselves) have come to perceive as necessity.
I digress...
Our parking lot. It was so funny to listen to everyone at work talking about how the roads were unpassable and they just couldn't make it home so they had to stay at the hospital for days on end. They were shocked when we said we were driving home. This is like a Monday morning in the midwest! Different people - different problems.
A car covered with a solid 1/2 inch of ice. The problem here arises when the rain freezes then the heavy snow sits on top of it. So needless to say, there were A LOT of trees that went down. We were only out of power for 2 days, there were people who didn't get it back for a week!
This isn't this guy's first rodeo!
